Lesvos

Lesvos boasts being the third largest island in Greece (1698 sq. km), the shape resembles a plane leaf. The island is a result of volcanic eruptions; thus giving it a rugged, mountainous and stony morphology.

Besides the hot springs therapeutic cures it is definitely worth visiting even for a swim.

Lesvos is famous for producing natives who are renowned for excelling in art and literature; Sapho the Poetess, Alkaios the Lyricist, Arion the Sitar player, Terpandros the musician of the ancient times, Odysseus Elytis the Poet ( nobel prize winner), Stratis Myrivillis the Author and Theophilos the Artist.

Legend has it that King Makaras, son of God Sun, immigrated to Lesvos with his 9 children. Five daughters Mytilene, Mythimna, Issa, Antissa and Arisvi and four sons Eressos, kydrolaos, Neadros and Lefkipos. Later on they gave their names to the important towns of Lesvos.
